Gemma Neroni

Young Professionals

Gemma Neroni’s background bridges theoretical physics, space science, and hands-on engineering. Her academic journey began with a Master’s in Theoretical Physics from the University of Zurich, and a research thesis on Neuroinformatics. Driven by a desire for specialized knowledge, she went on to earn a second Master’s in Space Science and Technology from University College Dublin, graduating with first-class honours. She further expanded her expertise by completing ESA’s Space Debris training course, gaining first hand insight into strategies to mitigate one of space’s most pressing challenges. After her thesis work, Gemma joined ISISPACE as a Systems and Operations Engineer in 2021, working on Earth Observation and radio frequency missions. Her responsibilities included feasibility studies, proposal preparation, and providing operational support for LEOP and payload debugging activities. Since 2023, Gemma has been a Medior Systems Engineer at TNO, the Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research. She’s a core member of the calibration team for the Proto-Flight Model of Sentinel-5, an atmospheric monitoring instrument, part of the European Copernicus program, that provides operational monitoring of trace gas concentrations for climate science and sustainability. She also serves as Test Director for Sentinel-5 Flight Model 2, where she focuses on optimizing measurement strategies and methodologies to enhance system performance.
