The “da Vinci” award recognizes an individual whose lifelong work has significantly contributed to making an enduring positive impact on the safe and conscientious use of space. This award is bestowed on an individual who has tirelessly worked towards fostering cooperation among the spacefaring nations for the peaceful use of space and for the greater good of humankind. The candidate for the “da Vinci” award must meet at least two of the following three criteria:
- A leader in the space professional world who has championed the advancement of space safety and the safe operation of space-based systems resulting in incomparable achievements.
- A decision maker who has established continued and inclusive policies to build trust and cooperation amongst nations towards the preservation and peaceful use of space.
- A mentor, an educator, who has demonstrated an exemplary lifelong passion for promoting scientific knowledge and love of the arts that are centered on the value of the space environment and care for the wellbeing of others.
